Steam uses a subscription system to install those mods to your game through a cloud. Nexus mods are installed manually into Skyrim by you or installed comprehensibly by the Nexus Mod Manager. Not all mods by Nexus will appears in your Data Files or Load Order section, as they have no.esp or.esm folders.Nearly all modders have installation instructions on how to install their mods manually, which is a fairly simple process once you've learned where your Skyrim folder is located. However, it's impossible to recover your previous set up manually, which is why I highly recommend that you download NMM from the front page of the Nexus site and use it for any mods you download and install.Using NMM is very easy: you first install it, have it detect your various games, confirm that it will install the mods into the proper Skyrim folder in steam, and then start up the Nexus menu. From there you can download mods from the site directly to the NMM or download them normally and manually feed them into NMM through the 'Add Folder' button.
From there you simply double click the mod and NMM will install it for you. Then, if you want to uninstall the mod, you double click again. It's a lot more comprehensive than the Steam system, but it offers much more customization and control. I highly recommend that you do the necessary reading to understand the process, and if it's too much for you, to stick with Steam. But it's not that hard once you've spent an hour or two playing with it.
Finally, the extremely talented modders behind the exceptional Skyrim Script Extender has released a version in beta that works wonderfully with Skryim SE. What this tool allows you to do is install mods that require additional functionality that the base game engine simply cannot offer. I'm talking a better UI experience that wasn't designed for consoles, more feature-packed mods, and more.Just make sure you download and install the version for SE and not the old Skyrim.
Afterward, you need to launch the SKSE64.exe and not the Skyrim executable through Steam. Choosing the best modsThe absolute must-have mods for Skyrim include SKSE, SkyUI, and Alternate Start. The rest depends on your system specifications, your desired playstyle and what type of content you want to add to the world of Skyrim. But what are your favorite mods for Skyrim Special Edition? Are there any you have for Skyrim that have yet to be ported? Sound off in the comments. We'd also like to thank modders for their continued support in extending the enjoyment of games, particularly Skyrim.
